Xero MCP Server

Xero's own connector lets an AI assistant work in your accounting, creating invoices and quotes, updating contacts, and pulling reports. It turns logging in and doing it by hand into asking and checking the result.

Accounting software holds the answers, but getting them still means logging in, clicking around, and doing the entry by hand. For a small business, that adds up across invoices, contacts, and month-end reports.

What it is

Xero's official connector (an MCP server) that lets an AI assistant work directly in your Xero account: create invoices and quotes, update contacts, and pull financial reports. Because it's Xero's own, it's a trustworthy thing to connect, and it does its job as a unit.

The business outcome

The routine accounting motions get faster. Invoices and quotes get drafted, contacts stay current, and the reports you need come from asking instead of clicking. Your time goes to the numbers that need judgment, not data entry.

What you'll need (and what it costs)

This one has real dependencies, and we say so up front: it requires a paid Xero subscription, plus Xero API credentials and a runtime to host the server. The connector itself is free and open source; the cost is the Xero plan you'd be connecting to. If you already run Xero, you're most of the way there.

How we'd set it up with you

Connecting to your live accounting is squarely a build we do with you. We handle the credentials and the connection, scope exactly what the assistant can do (usually draft-and-review before anything posts), and set up a record of every action. Then we train your team and, if you want, keep it running. Money movement is where a partner earns their keep, and it's the honest reason this isn't a do-it-yourself.

What to watch for

It's official and MIT-licensed, so the tool itself is trustworthy. The care is entirely in scope and oversight: what it can touch, what needs a person's sign-off, and a clear audit trail, all of which we build in from the start.

Frequently asked questions

Will it change my books on its own?
Only within the limits you set. Accounting is exactly where oversight matters, so we scope what it can do (often draft-and-review to start) and keep a record of every action, rather than letting it post freely.
